Social marketing is a well used, yet often misunderstood public policy
tool. When deployed effectively, social marketing can play a powerful
role in the policy mix. But often the case for a social marketing
programme is not well articulated and doesn't reflect the key success
factors that make for a winning case. The end result – a programme that
doesn't deliver effective results, or, worse still, doesn't get off the
ground. What makes for a winning case for social marketing? How can you
ensure the right level of support for the right programme from the
right people at the right time?
Liz is responsible for corporate affairs and government relations for
Lion Nathan – New Zealand's leading alcoholic beverage company. Liz has
been with the company since February 2005.
Prior to joining Lion Nathan, Liz had 14 years experience in
government - primarily in marketing and communications roles, and
latterly specialising in social marketing, public education management
and strategic communications management.
Before joining Lion Nathan, Liz spent nearly three years as General
Manager Communications & Education with the Land Transport Safety
Authority.
Liz's role involved leading a team of 20 people responsible for
delivering the LTSA's road safety advertising campaigns, education
programmes, marketing services and strategic communications activities
with an annual budget of $26 million.
Before joining the LTSA, Liz spent four years leading the public
education programme of the Retirement Commission, a crown agency
responsible for encouraging New Zealanders to make private provision
for retirement. The highlight of Liz's time at the Retirement
Commission was managing the development and introduction of the
'Sorted' advertising campaign and web site in 2001. The web site
is an interactive, independent financial planning tool for New
Zealanders and has subsequently won a number of national awards for
excellence in the use of IT in Government.
Liz joined the public service in the early 1990s working in the
employment field; and in the late 90's, Liz spent two years working as
Policy Advisor and then Press Secretary for Ministers of Employment in
New Zealand's first MMP Coalition Government.
