The Green Prescription (GRx) Programme

The Green Prescription (GRx) Programme was established in 1998 to provide general practitioners and practice nurses with the option of prescribing physical activity where it may be considered beneficial in long-term health care. The patient is sent to a GRx provider (usually a Regional Sports Trust (RST) or in some cases a Primary Health Organisation) which provide four months of telephone counselling, follow-up advice and referral on local physical activity options to the participants. Most RSTs run group sessions and some provide face to face support.
