Do you need pills for winter ills?
With cold and flu season upon us again, PHARMAC is reminding people that antibiotics are not the answer for all winter illnesses. Antibiotics are effective against bacterial infections, but they do not kill viruses such as colds and flu.
The Wise Use of Antibiotics campaign was launched on the 6th of June and PHARMAC Medical Director Dr Peter Moodie says it is vital that New Zealand continues to reduce the unnecessary use of this important drug.
“Antibiotics are very useful in fighting bacterial infections and that is when they should be used.”
